FOOT PAIN

Investigating and treating the cause of all types of foot pain with Biomechanics

GENERAL FOOT CARE

Debridement of nails and calluses

INGROWN TOENAILS

Ingrown toenails can be caused by improper nail trimming, tight shoes, or a bony spur underneath the nail (visible by the nail curving and digging into the surrounding skin). In each case the body reacts to the nail as a foreign object, as it would a splinter, resulting in swelling, redness, heat, and pain. If left untreated the skin may become thickened and overlap the nail forming a pyogenic granuloma. The first step treating an ingrown toenail is removing the part of the nail sticking into the skin and treating any infection. If the ingrown nail is recurrent, the offending boarder can be easily removed with an advanced form of radio wave therapy halting regrowth. If the ingrown nail is caused by a bone spur underneath the nail MIS surgery is used to reduce the spur.

CORNS

Corns can be soft or hard, and are almost always painful. Corns can be found on the top of toes, the side of toes, and even in-between toes. Corns are caused by a bony prominence, a contracted joint, or two bones rubbing together, and can result in ulcers which are almost impossible to heal, without treating the cause of the corn. MIS is an effective way to treat corns with incisions so small they generally require no stitches.

MINIMAL INCISIONAL SURGERY

Dr.Biehler, one of few foot surgeons to ever be double board certified, offers a special type of surgery referred to as MIS. MIS surgery can replace many unnecessary and outdated surgical techniques allowing patients to feel almost no pain, have no scarring, and extremely little recovery time.

HAMMER TOES

Under this general heading also belongs claw toes or mallet toes, which are differentiated between which joint/joints are contracted and classified by level of flexibility (flexible, semi-rigid, or rigid). Hammer Toes can cause pain on the top of the toe as well as under the ball of the forefoot. The bony destruction in the joint of the toe can be very uncomfortable and unsightly. Dr.Biehler is able to asses the cause of and treat the Hammer Toe. By using the advanced technique of non-disabling MIS Hammer Toes are straightened, repositioned, and realigned,  normally without the use of pins and screws.

CALLUSES

A callus is an area of thickened skin. The most common place a painful callus is found is under the forefoot. Calluses are usually formed in response to one or more metatarsal bones that have an increased angle of declination. This increased angle causes an area of the foot to strike the ground prematurely, resulting in greater weight on an area of the foot the body is not designed to handle. The body, in an effort to protect itself, thickens the skin. MIS can be used to reposition the metatarsal angle allowing weight to be more evenly distributed and eliminating excessive pressure where the pain and callus tend to disappear.

MORTON'S NEUROMA

Morton's Neuroma is described as a sharp radiating pain which starts deep in the forefoot. Morton's Neuroma can be caused by a compressed nerve between two bones causing swelling and thickening of the nerve. Pain caused by this condition is typically found in-between or around the third and fourth toes. When the forefoot is squeezed and manipulated sometimes an audible "pop" can be heard as the nerve passes between the bones. A Morton's Neuroma can be treated with MIS surgery (decompressing the bones to relieve pressure and pain) or can be treated with a series of sclerosing injections.

BUNIONS

A bunion, or large bump on the side of the foot where the big toe bends, can be unsightly, make buying and wearing shoes difficult or embarrassing, and painful. Bunions are progressive and get worse with time, resulting in other foot problems. Bunions can be effectively treated WITH MIS and WITHOUT PINS OR SCREWS, allowing patients to walk out of the office right after the procedure.

CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT

The feet contain approximately a quarter of all the bones in the body. With that many bones working together, it should come as no surprise that problems can develop. Dr. Biehler uses patented orthotics, RestorThotics. RestorThotics are custom made inserts that can be placed into shoes to either accommodate and cushion excessive pressure in the foot or can be made to functionally correct and align the foot.

REGENERATIVE MEDICINE FOR ARTHRITIS & PAINFUL JOINTS

An excellent choice when extra cushioning, structural support, and viscosity are needed. Premium quality stem cell injections unlock the body's natural ability to heal.
